	<Abstract>The present study deals with four aquatic plants such as Marsilea quadrifolia, Centella asiatica, Trapa natans and Ipomea aquatica which were collected from different localities of Marthandam, Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu which are being consumed raw or as vegetable. These species were extracted with five different solvents viz. petroleum ether, chloroform, acetone, ethanol, distilled water and evaluated for their biomolecules and phytochemicals. The findings of the study provided evidences that various solvent extracts of these tested plants contain medicinally important bioactive compounds and it justifies their use in the traditional medicines for the treatment of various diseases as well as for nutritive purposes. </Abstract>
