	<Abstract>The present study was performed to evaluate the chemical composition of the methanol extract of Pseudarthria viscida (L) Wight and Arn and Desmodium gangeticum (Linn) DC. 43 compounds have been identified from P. viscida extract and the major chemical constituents are cis-Vaccenic acid (16.47%), sitosterol (13.73%) and stigmasterol (6.24%).18 compounds have been identified from D.gangeticum and the major chemical constituents are 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid (41.71%), n-Hexadecanoic acid (9.43%) and Octadecanoic acid (5.9%). Stigmasterol was quantified from both extracts by HPTLC method (105.15 µg/ml and 20.9 µg/ml respectively). In- vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities of methanolic extracts of P.viscida and D.gangeticum was evaluated in the present study. The zone of inhibition and minimum inhibitory concentration were measured. Ampicillin (30 g/disc) and mystatin (20 g/disc) were used as standard for antibacterial and antifungal activity respectively. </Abstract>
