Abstract

The kinetics of oxidation of Indigo carmine by V (V) has been investigated in aqueous sulphuric acid media. The reaction studied spectrophotometrically in aqueous sulphuric acid medium is first order in vanadium (V) and indigo carmine. Plots of kobs versus [H+] are linear with positive intercepts on kobs axes, suggesting the formation of a complex between vanadium (V) and dye. The oxidation of indigo carmine by V (V) in aqueous sulphuric acid media in the presence of cationic, anionic and non-ionic surfactants at different temperatures has been investigated. The activation and thermodynamic parameters have been calculated.
