Copper(II)-Complexes of an Isatinic Quinolyl Hydrazone-Anion effect

Abstract

New heteroleptic copper(II)- complexes (1:1 or 1:2; M:L) were obtained from the reaction of an isatinic quinolyl hydrazone(H2L) with several copper(II)- salts viz. Cl-, Br-, NO3- , ClO4-, SO42- and AcO-. The obtained complexes have Oh, squareplanar (Dh4- symmetry) and square pyramid arrangements. The complexes fulfill the strong coordinating ability of Cl-, Br-,NO3- and SO42- anions. Depending on the type of the anion, the ligand coordinates the copper(II)- ions either through itslactam (SO42- and ClO4-) or lactim forms (the others). For the copper(II)- isatinic complexes the antimicrobial activit showsa gradual change with change of the coordinated anions. Also, depending on the type of the anion, the order of theantimicrobial activity is as follows Cl- > SO42- > Br-.
